At One Smart Kid's Genius Gym, students climb to new heights on the academic ladder. Limited to eight students, our classes offer academic enrichment and promote critical thinking skills and test-taking mastery in a stimulating and supportive environment. We are conveniently located on Sacramento Street in the heart of Laurel Village.

If there's a conflict with a date or if you don't see a course offered that would appeal to your child, we can design a custom course for a minimum of four students.

Girl Power!
Organization, Study, and Pre-Writing Skills


GIRL POWER! C'mon, girls! It's time to stop reading about superheroes and become one. This enrichment course - specially designed for girls — prepares 6th to 7th graders for a year of success, confidence, motivation, and power. Through hands-on exercises, students will activate their inner superpowers to strengthen organizational, study, math, and writing skills. Students will create their own Superhero Student Handbook that will act as a toolkit of strategies and techniques for academic mastery in the upcoming school year.

Bridge to High School

Start high school on the right path! This enrichment course prepares incoming high school freshmen for a year of success. Students will learn invaluable writing, study, organization, and time management skills. The course will cover different forms of note taking, outlining, assignment tracking, study, test-taking, and writing skills. Students will create their own study skills handbook that will equip them with the necessary tools to start the school year with empowerment.

The Magic Pen: Playwriting
Writing, Communication, and Social Skills


Write the next award-winning script! This enrichment playwriting course will develop students’ language, writing, communication, and social skills through the use of writing exercises, improvisation, and theater games.
Students will explore story and character development, theme, and conflict resolution by drawing from personal experience and imagination in a positive
and encouraging atmosphere.

Write On!
Expository and Creative Writing

Channel your inner writer and compose both expository and creative essays while learning more about the art of written expression. This writing enrichment course will focus on the five-paragraph essay as well as various forms of creative writing exercises in formats such as 'zines, blogging, and journaling. Improve both clarity and depth of thought through brainstorming, outlining, and organizational strategies using Inspiration software. Students will work as a group to design a class 'zine and learn how to create his or her own handmade book. Take this course, have fun, and Write On!

Be on top of your math game! In this intensive math course, students will strengthen crucial math foundation skills, including fractions, ratios, percentages, proportions, pre-algebra, geometry, and word problems. This course will focus on the completion of math assignments and preparation while reinforcing memorization and test-taking/study skills. Students will create a Math Power tool kit to act as a resource for strategies and tools needed for math success.

Math Whiz

 

 

 

 

 

Embrace your inner math whiz! This intensive math course will reinforce the steps needed for math success. Students will strengthen critical math foundation skills including the four basic operations, measurements, ratios, fractions, and decimals. Using assignments and tests/quizzes as a platform, students will work individually and as a group to complete homework and apply math concepts to real life. Each student will create his or her own Math Whiz handbook that will act as a tool kit in school and at home.

SSAT Preparation Summer 2010
One Smart Kid's SSAT prep is individualized to each student's academic needs and learning styles.Our instruction is targeted to the exact skills and tips needed to ace the test. All of them maximize their scores and emerge more confident about the entire application process.

Our intimate classes offer academic enrichment and promote critical thinking skills and test-taking mastery in a fun, stimulating and creative atmosphere. Our activity-based curriculum encourages students to be engaged and active learners, while equipping them with the tools necessary for success.

Chief Executive Studies Officer

 

 

This weekly academic support group, designed for students with ADD/ADHD and executive function challenges, will act as a forum for students to hone their skills while building autonomy and self-reliance. Students will complete long- and short-term assignments and prepare for tests/quizzes, while focusing on valuable organizational, memorization, time-management, and planning skills.

SSAT Practice Test
Practice Makes Perfect


Our unique Interactive Practice Test turns theory into practice and encourages students to utilize their whole toolbox of strategies while taking a full-length practice SSAT Test. Each section of the SSAT test will be preceded by a discussion and review of strategies, which will be reinforced during the test. Discover your strengths and weaknesses and learn how to handle multiple hours of testing at a stretch. Each test will be scored based on the SSAT official guidelines. Students will receive a comprehensive answer packet that includes an in-depth analysis of correct and incorrect answers, a math answer review packet,and comments on their essay. These materials will serve as a invaluable study guide for further test-prep.
